One of Lydia’s writing assignments this week was a catalog poem, where you start with a named subject and basically list characteristics or attributes describing that person or thing. On her own, Lydia wrote this poem for Eli. There is enough hitting & arguing some days that these loving words are good medicine. It’s things like this that help me understand more how lovely it must be to God when his children love one another. It’s His greatest wish for us and mine for my kids as well. A great Christmas moment.
My brother
Who is always getting himself into trouble
Who can make great snowmen
Who always laughs at my silly jokes
Who loves to make forts
Who loves to play games
-To my brother Eli Hart…
…Who loves me so.
With love from Lydia Hart

Lydia and Daddy went out Friday for a short nature walk. We took pictures of contrasts in nature and wrote down what we saw. When we got home, we downloaded our pictures and created a presentation to share with the family. Check it out!
The contrasts we found
- Light/Dark
- Soft/Hard
- Small/Big
- Unusual/Interesting

Five years ago today at 2:13 pm, Eli came rushing into the world! Happy day to him, who makes our lives more exciting all the time.

Eli’s response when I was crooning over how sweet Clara is the other day: “I’m sweet, too. Sweet like a rock star.” Too bad his primary-colors plastic electric guitar wasn’t slung over his shoulder to complete the look.

Aden & Clara had their well-child/baby visit with the family doc today. Aden (2.5) is 29 lbs and 37 inches tall. Clara (6 mos) is 15 lbs 4 oz and I forget how long now. Both are in the 50th percentile on both counts. Aden sat and read a pumpkin book the entire time the doc examined Clara. There is a God. Clara had 3 shots but handled them well. Aden was spared the needle this time around which made him very happy. Afterward he and I split a cookie from Wealthy Street Bakery to celebrate healthy growth and good behavior. Clara slept, unaware of the gooey chocolatey goodness she was missing. The older two enjoyed a morning at the neighbor’s house delighting in the rare joy of Dish TV while helping to check puzzles for missing pieces. Thus ends my Hemingway-esque account of our morning.

Aden had another of his 6-month checks with the pediatric cardiologist this afternoon. He is doing well and won’t have to see Dr. Lee again until next summer. Ebstein’s Anomaly is still present of course because it is an issue with the heart’s structure itself. But his little body is chugging along just fine! The doctor quipped that Aden’s pulse-ox at 100% is probably better than his own!

We decided to homeschool Lydia again this year and Eli is going back to Eastminster Presbyterian Preschool (which we loved last year) for the Young 5s class. Everyone is happy and relieved to have this decision made. Eli will be in gymnastics this fall and Lydia will continue dancing with the Grand Rapids Ballet Company. We may join a homeschool game time at an athletic club near us as well on Friday afternoons. Aden and Clara are just along for the ride for the next few years until they join in!
